Monte Rosso
is one of the oldest and most celebrated vineyards in Sonoma
County. Perched upon the Mayacamas range at over 1000’
elevation, it is named for its distinct red soil comprised of
mineral-rich decomposed volcanic rock. Difficult growing
conditions produce grapes of uncommon character and result in
fabulous, age-worthy wines.
The old
growth vineyard that straddles the ridge separating the Napa and
Sonoma Valleys has produced some of the richest, most
fruit-intensive wines in the appellation. Our 2004 Monte
Rosso Cabernet is no exception to this celebrated heritage.
After 24 months in French oak, and 4 years in finished bottle this
vintage reflects the refined, plush fruit for which this vineyard
is known. Wood smoke and tobacco aromas announce flavors of
creamy blackberry, black currant, cloves and coffee.
Fine-rounded tannins and exquisitely ripened fruit support a
prolonged, gracious finish. The character of this wine is
marked by a balance of wood-aging, and seamless tannins that
enhance red meat dishes such as prime rib, wild game and
charbroiled steaks.
